FREELSE #528 by Marino Marianna

FREELSE is a project created to satisfy the needs of students and young people, where they can enjoy their own space and do different activities.

Before the space was occupied by LSE Vera Anstey Suite on Houghton Street in London. Now the project is designed to create a space which can be occupied by students.

In particular, FREE LSE aims to accommodate the complex range of self organised activities as demonstrated by the occupiers, namely, a space to hold egalitarian round table discussions, seminars,
debates, lectures from guest speakers, the collective drafting of memorandums, advertising and demonstrating, eating, socialising, and perhaps even some sleeping too.

This project aims to create a flexible, versatile and simple space with an informal atmosphere, like the activities that will be carried out in it. Three key themes that emerged from these discussions have been incorporated into FREE LSE - equality, informality, and centricity.

The drawing consists of a concentric space in the center of the room. There is a storage area at the back of the hall which students can use to get chairs in order to sit in the space.

I think the idea of a flexible space is very interesting as it matches the needs and personalities of the students, who are dynamic and expressive.

I want to create a space that is simple and flexible like the first project, however I want it to be more comfortable for the students. When the students see the space I want them to be drawn to it and want to stay there. I want them to feel like they can do and say anything because they feel free whilst in this space. I want this project to reflect the characteristics of a student, it should be dynamic, fresh and strong.
