|THE PROBLEM|
THE ESCUELA DE DISEÑO IN MADRID IS A SMALL SCHOOL WITH AROUND 700 STUDENTS AND 35 PROFESSORS. THE STUDENTS ARE DIVIDED INTO 4 DEPARTMENTS: INTERIOR DESIGN, FASHION DESIGN, GRAFIC DESIGN AND PRODUCT DESIGN. IN THIS CROWDED SURROUNDING IT CAN BE HARD TO WORK, TO RELAX, AND ALSO TO HAVE FUN. REQUIRED IS A SPACE WHICH FITS THE INDIVIUAL NEEDS OF EVERY PERSON AND A AREA WITH A MULTIFUNCTIONAL USE.



 

|THE IDEA|
WE SET OURSELF THE TARGET TO CREATE AN ATMOSPHERIC ARCHITECTURE WHICH ANYBODY, NOT ONLY STUDENTS, BUT ALSO PROFESSORS AND EMPLOYEES CAN USE. THE PAVILION DOES NOT HAVE A SPECIFIC FUNCTION. IT SHALL BE SEEN AS A MULTIFUNCTIAL SPACE WHICH ADAPTS TO THE NEEDS OF THE CLIENTS. THE PROVIDED SPACE SHALL COMBINE THREE IMPORTANT CRITERIA:

THE FIRST QUESTION WE HAVE TO ASK US IS: HOW CAN WE CREATE A SPACE WHICH FITS ALL THE NEEDS OF SOMANY DIFFERENT INDIVIDUMS?




  
|THE IDEA|
FOR THIS PROJECT OUR ANSWER IS: MOVABLE ARCHITECTURE. BECAUSE TO BE SURE THE SPACE WE PROVIDE FITS ALL THE DESIGN OF OUR CLIENTS, WE  HAVE TO DELIVER A PAVILION WHICH CAN BE CHANGED. THE PROBLEM HERE IS, THAT MOVEABLE WALLS, FURNITURE IN A DETERMINED AREA ARE COMMON, BUT HOW TO TAKE A STEP FURTHER AND CREATE A WHOLE PAVILION WITH THIS THOUGHTS. FOR OUR SOLUTION WE GET THE INSPIRATION IN A VERY FAMILIAR GAME: PIN ART.
BEYOND WE WANT TO REMAIN TRUE TO SANTIAGO´S PHYLOSOPHY AND USE ONLY RECYCLABLE MATERIAL, WHICH SHALL ALSO BE ONE OF OUR IMPORTANT CRITERIA.

|THE PAVILION|   
ARCHITECTURE SHALL BE RECONSIDERED AS A PROTECTION AGAINST WEATHER CONDITIONS AND SHALL BE TURNED INTO AN INTERACTIVE ROOM EXPERIENCE. BUILT OUT OF MOVEABLE TUBES, THE PAVILION ALLOWS THE OCCUPANT TO CREATE A ROOM ESPECIALLY FOR HIS INDIVIDUAL NEEDS. BY PUSHING AND PULLING THE TUBES YOU CAN CREATE DIFFERENT KIND OF FURNITURES AND ABSTRACT SHAPES OF THE FACADE TO CREATE A COMFORTABLE CAVE. FURTHERMORE IT CAN BE USED AS AN REFUGIUM OF THOUGHTS. PLAYING WITH THE TUBES WILL HELP YOU TO EXPAND YOUR CREATIVE HORIZON: A NEW WORLD OF SHAPES AND 3D THINKING WILL OPEN UP AND LEAD TO NEW PERCEPTIONS IN THE DESIGN PROCESS









|THE TUBES|   
THE WHOLE PAVILION IS BUILT OUT OF CARDBOARD. THE MATERIAL CONVINCED WITH THE APPEARANCE, RECYCLABILITY AND FLEXIBILITY. THE CARDBOARD IS COVERED WITH VARNISH TO MAKE SURE THE TUBES ARE WATERPROOF







|THE LOCATION|
OUR DO IT YOURSELF PAVILION IS PLACED IN THE BACKYARD OF THE DESIGN SCHOOL TO USE THE BEAUTIFUL SPACE BETWEEN THE TREES. FURTHERMORE WE CAN IMAGINE OUR PAVILION IN MANY DIFFERENT CITIES. IT WOULD BE GREAT TO HAVE THIS PLACE OF RETREAT IN OUR OWN UNIVERSITIES ( PICTURE I: MUNICH - PICTURE II: BRAUNSCHWEIG)



        

|THE DELAUNAY TRIANGULATION|   
WHAT HAVE ALL OF THESE BEAUTIFUL PATTERNS IN COMMON? ONE MATHEMATICAL METHOD THAT OCCURS OFTEN IN NATURE: VORONOI. VORONOI ARISE IN PRESSURIZED SPATIAL MICROSTRUCTURE AND CREATE CHARACTERISTIC, STRIVING FOR BALANCING LIMITATIONS. THE DELAUNAY TRIANGULATION IS THE DUAL GRAPH OF THE VORONOI DIAGRAM OF AN FINITE POINT SET: THE EDGES
OF THE VORONOI CELLS ARE THE TRIANGLES´ MIDPOINTS OF THE DELAUNAY TRIANGULATION.  FOR OUR PURPOSE WE WILL USE THE TRIANGULATION TO ACHIVE A MORE STABLE CONSTRUCTION





 
 


|THE ENTRANCE|
WE OVERTHINK THE GIVEN ACCESS AND COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT TO OPEN SPACES ON THE LONGITUDE WALLS WILL CREATE A THRILLING SITUATION. TO ENTER THE PAVILION, IT IS REQUIRED TO MOVE TUBES TO FIND THE PROPER WAY OF STEPPING INSIDE. THIS WILL CREATE A FASCINATING, MEMORABLE HAPPENING. TO REFLECT THIS DECISION ALSO IN THE SECTION, OUR FORM IS DIVIDED INTO THREE PARTS. WHILE PLAYING WITH DIFFERENT HEIGHTS OF THOSE THREE CORPORA, THIS ALSO LEADS TO A NICE SPACE INSIDE WITH A REMARKABLE VIEW FROM THE OUTSIDE






|THE SHAPE|
IT IS IMPORTANT TO US TO GUARANTEE NO TREES ARE HARMED. SO TO FIND THE MOST REASONABLE EXTERIOR SHAPE, WE HAVE TO INVESTIGATE THE TERRAIN AND FIND A NATURAL GAP BETWEEN THE TREES. THE BUILDING IS EXACTLY DESIGNED FOR THIS UNTYPICAL AND SPECIFIC EMPTY SPACE SURROUNDED BY THE TREES.








|THE POSSIBILITIES|
INSPIRED BY PRADA POOLE´S PROJECTS, OUR PAVILION CAN BE SHAPED AS DESIRED. THE SUBCONSTRUCTION OUT OF FOILS WILL HELP YOU TO DESIGN A VARITY OF POSSIBILITIES. IN THE SCHOOL OF DESIGN THE PAVILION WILL WIND AROUND THE TREES. THE ENTRANCES ARE SET AS NEEDED. ALSO AT OUR HOME UNIVERSITIES ARE SOME POSSIBLE AREAS FOR OUR DO IT YOURSELF PAVILION.






|THE INSTRUCTION|
BASICALLY ALL THINGS YOU NEED TO BUILT THE DO IT YOURSELF PAVILION YOU CAN FIND IN YOUR OWN UNIVERSITY. THE BASE OF THE CONSTRUCTION IS A SHAPE COVERED WITH PAPIER MACHÉ IN WHICH YOU CUT WHOLES AND MERGE WITH THE TUBES.






|THE STRUCTURE|
THE SUBCONSTRUCTION MADE OUT OF PAPIER MACHÉ CREATE THE SHAPE OF THE PAVILION. AFTERWARDS YOU ADD THE TUBES TO THE FRAME.

|THE ADVANCEMENT |


TO SOLVE THE ISSUE OF CUTTING A THICKNESS OF 45 CM PAPIER MACHÉ WE ADVANCED THREE POSSIBILITIES. THE FIRST IDEA IS TO MAKE A DOUBLE FRAME SYSTEM IN WHICH THE FRAMES ONLY HAVE A THICKNESS OF 15 CM. THE SECONDE POSSIBILITY IS TO CHANGE THE SHAPE OF THE PAVILION TO AVOID THE HUGHE GAPS AT THE SHORT SITES. THE LAST AND MOST REASONABLE SOLUTION IS TO BUILT SINGLE FRAMES OUT OF CARDBOARD USING INTELIGENT INDENTING´S
